Woman arrested after being found on the street with a prohibited firearm

On Saturday afternoon, May 29, 2021, police responded to a weapon call after a woman was seen on Marion Street acting in what they describe as “bizarrely”.

According to police the woman was believed to be loading a firearm in front of a dog grooming business. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody with the help of a citizen who was trying to pre-occupy the suspect.

A Ruger SR-22 semi-automatic .22 calibre rifle with an extended magazine was seized. Police say the magazine was jammed with an unfired cartridge when it was seized.

Wilma Sheena Kakegumick, 37 from Winnipeg has been charged for her alleged involvement with Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With and Carry Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner.

She was detained in custody.
