WOMAN WHO ABDUCTED HER CHILDREN PLEADS GUILTY

The woman who kidnapped her own children last summer has pleaded guilty to one count of abduction in a Winnipeg Court.

In June of 2016 the mother, who cannot be named due to a publication ban ordered by the court, took here two children and disappeared.

Police issued a Canada-wide warrant for her arrest and asked through the media for the woman to give herself up.

For four days police searched for the suspect and the abducted children. When the woman was found she was in a vehicle in St. James and as police converged she attempted to flee, hitting a police vehicle as she did.

A brief chase ensued and the woman was located again a few blocks away in a park. As officers approached again the woman attempted to flee on foot. She was arrested and charged with two counts of abduction.

According to court records at the time the woman was in a custody battle over her children at the time of the abduction.

In court the crown stayed one of the abduction charges as the woman pleaded guilty to the other.

She will be sentenced at a later date.
