Keep those shovels handy as a strong winter storm is expected to develop that will impact southern Manitoba this weekend.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says the system will “likely bring snow, rain, freezing rain, and even a few rumbles of thunder.”
Snow is expected to begin on Saturday afternoon and may change to freezing rain and rain in southeast parts of the province including the Red River Valley.
In areas where the precipitation remains snow accumulations could be 20-30 cm.
Strong winds on Saturday and Sunday will bring low visibility especially in open areas.
ECCC warns that unnecessary travel is not recommended.
The national forecaster noted that the exact track of the storm is still not known so the location snow, freezing rain and rain will become more clear as the weekend approaches.
The storm system is expected to move out of the region on Monday.
