Winter roads checkstops used to deter bootlegging

RCMP in Manitoba has been cruising the Winter Roads to disrupt and deter the bootlegging of alcohol and other contraband that make their way to northern dry communities.

Between March 10 and 12, officers patrolled Highway 6, Highway 373 and the winter roads that lead to Island Lake, God’s Lake Narrows and nearby communities.

During the three-day enforcement, a significant amount of liquor was seized including one vehicle that had 26 bottles of alcohol. During the operation 75 Highway Traffic Act offence tickets were issued and four people with outstanding arrest warrants were taken into custody. One driver was charged for being impaired and one person person was charged with trafficking under the Cannabis Act.
