A 43-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man on Blake Street earlier this month.
On February 2, 2025, at approximately 6:52 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a call of an unresponsive male who had been assaulted in the 300 block of Blake Street. Officers located the victim and provided medical care before he was transported to hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead. The victim was identified as 34-year-old Justin Boulanger, a member of Berens River First Nation residing in Winnipeg.
Following an investigation, the Homicide Unit identified a female suspect. On February 6, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, the Drone Unit, and East and Central General Patrol officers, 43-year-old Stephanie Lee Traverse of Winnipeg was arrested at her residence.
Investigators determined that Traverse and Boulanger were in a suite in the 300 block of Blake Street when a verbal argument ensued. The argument escalated, and Traverse allegedly discharged an improvised firearm, striking Boulanger.
Traverse has been charged with manslaughter and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. She was also arrested on three outstanding warrants and remains in custody.
