After a years-long investigation, Winnipeg Police have made an arrest in connection with the 2021 arson death of 44-year-old Faye Sanderson. Kendra Leanne Sinclair, 35, has been charged with second-degree murder.
The fire occurred on September 21, 2021, shortly before 8:45 a.m., at a residence located at 510 Young Street in Winnipeg. Firefighters discovered Sanderson’s body inside the home after extinguishing the blaze. Initial investigations determined the fire had been intentionally set, indicating foul play.
Sanderson, a member of Mosakahiken Cree Nation, was residing in Winnipeg at the time of her death.
Following an extensive investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service’s Homicide Unit, a female suspect was identified. Investigators revealed that Sinclair and Sanderson were known to each other.
After consulting with Manitoba Justice, a warrant for second-degree murder was issued for Sinclair’s arrest.
On March 4, 2025, Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Edmonton Police Service, executed the warrant. Sinclair was arrested at the Edmonton Institution for Women in Edmonton, Alberta, where she was already incarcerated on unrelated charges.
Sinclair has been detained in custody.
