Winnipeg virus numbers jump by 30 on Wednesday.

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 42 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 1,674.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 2.2 per cent

Six cases in the Southern Health region, two cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health region, one case in Northe Health region, three cases in Prairie Mointain Health region and 30 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

There are 11 people being treated in hospital including five people in intensive care.

There are currently 418 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 334 of those in Winnipeg, 1,238 people are listed as recovered.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 18.

1,703 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 170,045

Three more schools in the province have confirmed cases of COVID-19. Gladstone Elementary School has a confirmed case in the school the infected person was at school on Sept. 8 to 10, and 14. St. Maurice School has a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the infected person was at school on Sept. 17 and 18. Emerson School was notified of a confirmed case of COVID-19 where the infected person was at the school on Sept. 16 and 17.

Officials say that now of the cases related to the schools were acquired at the school and the exposures are considered low risk.

Public Health also announced that there are a number of possible exposure sites in Winnipeg and any one who attended them on the dates in question should self-monitor.

The locations of the possible exposures are:

  • Earls St. Vital at 1215 St. Mary’s Rd. in Winnipeg on Sept. 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
  • The Local Public Eatery at 274 Garry St. in Winnipeg on Sept. 15 and 16
  • Wee Johnny’s Irish Pub at 177 McDermot Ave. in Winnipeg on Sept. 15 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. for trivia night
  • Leopold’s Tavern at 414 Academy Rd. in Winnipeg on Sept. 15 from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. 

Public health is continuing to advise Winnipeg residents and visitors to the city to stay home if sick, wash your hands, cover your cough and physically distance when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, you should wear a mask to help reduce your risk. Reduce the number of close contacts outside your household, and avoid closed-in or crowded spaces. 

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
