Between June 2 and June 18, 2021, the City of Winnipeg will be conducting controlled burns in natural areas of the city, weather permitting.
Fire is used to preserve and restore certain areas of the prairies. Without fire weeds invade endangered tall grass prairies.
The controlled burns are only conducted in suitable wind conditions with appropriate fire guards in place.
The city first began the controlled burn program in 1986.
