Winnipeg suspends several in-home inspections until further notice

The City of Winnipeg has suspended several in-home inspections until further notice due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the city.

Non-emergency inspections will be halted as of Wednesday, December 22, 2021 and involve the following services:

Assessment & Taxation

All interior residential property inspections are suspended, and inspections will be completed through photos or via phone until further notice.

By-Law Enforcement Services

All interior residential and commercial property inspections are suspended, and inspections (where possible) will be completed through alternative means, such as by photos or via phone, until further notice.

Planning, Property & Development

All in-person inspections of occupied dwellings will be conducted virtually until further notice. Inspections of unoccupied homes and on-site inspections for urgent situations will continue.

Water and Waste

In-home visits for emergency utility services will continue; however, water meter reading and inspections, as well as water meter returns, removals, and replacements are suspended until further notice. Customers are reminded that they are responsible for providing regular water meter readings to avoid estimated bills. Water meter readings can be provided via phone 204-986-4445 or online at myutilitybill.winnipeg.ca.

The city has also suspended the S.A.F.E. family (Smoke Alarm For Every Family) program operated by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. All in-person public education presentations have also been suspended.
