In late February, Winnipeg Police warned the public about a dangerous new form of fentanyl disguised as colourful cookies, candles, and soaps as they were investigating multiple arrests and drug seizures across the city.
According to police, The Guns & Gangs Unit launched an investigation in January 2025 into drug trafficking in the West Alexander neighbourhood, uncovering fentanyl products pressed into deceptive shapes.
The investigation culminated in multiple arrests and the seizure of approximately $225,000 worth of illicit drugs and $53,000 in cash. On February 20th, David Cameron Gray, 51, was arrested during a traffic stop and found in possession of fentanyl, cash, and drug paraphernalia. He faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement, including drug trafficking and firearm offences.
Subsequent search warrants executed at an apartment complex on Winnipeg Avenue resulted in the arrest of three women, Amy Jose Lynn Gray, 21, Destiny Dawn Gray, 37, and a 32-year-old female, all facing drug trafficking charges. Seized items included fentanyl, ammunition, and cash.
A second search warrant on Atkins Street yielded a significant haul of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, opioid pills, and $45,000 in cash. Police have issued an arrest warrant for Dennis Lawrence Russell Spence, 44, in connection with this investigation.
Police are advising anyone who encounters similar items to avoid touching them and to contact the non-emergency line at 204-986-6222. In case of a medical crisis, individuals are urged to call 911.
