The Winnipeg Police Service’s Firearms Investigation and Enforcement Unit (FIEU) has arrested a 40-year-old man suspected of manufacturing firearms and weapons using a 3D printer. The investigation, which began in September 2024, culminated in the arrest of Jay Jonathan Mike on September 26th.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., FIEU investigators, with support from the Tactical Support Unit, the Guns & Gangs Unit, and Community Support Units from the Central and East Districts, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Beresford Avenue. Inside, they discovered a fully operational 3D printing workshop.
The police seized a range of items, including two 3D printers, two laptop computers, a desktop computer, a 3D-printed baton, three 3D-printed electrical discharge devices in various stages of production, various 3D-printed parts, a 3D-printed .22 calibre handgun, .22 calibre primers and ammunition, and multiple 3D-printed imitation firearms resembling missile launchers, machine guns, and pistols. Manufacturing tools were also confiscated.
Jay Jonathan Mike faces multiple charges, including two counts of weapons trafficking, possession of a weapon, three counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, three counts of possession of a firearm, restricted/prohibited weapon or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and failure to comply with a probation order. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
