Winnipeg Police Target Exploitation on Human Trafficking Awareness Day

In an effort to combat human trafficking and exploitation, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Counter Exploitation Unit (CEU) conducted a proactive sweep in the city’s West End on Saturday, February 22, 2024, coinciding with Human Trafficking Awareness Day 2025.

Responding to numerous community concerns, CEU officers, alongside Central and East District Community Support Units, carried out the operation, resulting in the arrest of seven men. The individuals, ranging in age from 27 to 50, were charged with Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration. They were subsequently released on Undertakings, as mandated by the Criminal Code.

Police say that several sex trade workers were offered community resources.

Anyone with information related to exploitation concerns in the community are asked to contact the Counter Exploitation Unit at 204-986-3464. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 or through their website at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
