Winnipeg Police Seize Drugs and Weapons in Year-End Raids

In a major drug bust at the close of 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed two search warrants on December 31. The raids took place at residences in the 600 block of Ross Avenue and the 500 block of Elgin Avenue, resulting in the seizure of a significant cache of drugs, firearms, and other illicit items, and the arrest of six individuals.

During the searches, police discovered approximately $8,000 worth of crack cocaine, $7,500 in Canadian currency, a loaded Ruger 9mm handgun, a loaded improvised firing device, two replica handguns, a conducted energy weapon (taser-style), a cross-bow, body armour, and various drug packaging materials.

Three men, Brent Scott MCCAAN (24), Dillon Riley BARKER (28), and Allan Ross THAXTER (38), all of Winnipeg, have been charged and detained in custody. They face multiple charges, including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, and various firearms-related offenses. Additionally, MCCAAN and THAXTER are charged with possessing body armour without a valid permit.

Two other males, ages 30 and 33, and a 33-year-old female are also facing charges related to drug trafficking and weapons offenses. They have been released on undertakings.

The Winnipeg Police Service continues to investigate and urge anyone with information related to this case to come forward.
