Winnipeg Police Respond to Weapons Incident at Red River Exhibition

A potentially dangerous situation was swiftly contained at the Red River Exhibition on Sunday evening, thanks to the quick response of onsite security and the Winnipeg Police Service.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., a group of males waiting in line for a ride found themselves confronted by two unknown males. A verbal dispute escalated when the suspects brandished a machete and what appeared to be a pistol.

The victims immediately reported the incident to onsite security. The suspects were apprehended, and the police were contacted. No injuries were reported during the incident, and it was later determined that the gun was an air pistol.

The suspects, a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old male, were detained in custody. The 17-year-old has been charged with Possession of a Weapon and four counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order. The 15-year-old faces charges of Possession of a Weapon and two counts of Failure to Comply with an Undertaking.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Winnipeg Police Service communicated with executive members of the Red River Exhibition. Despite robust security measures at the park’s entrance, it is believed that the weapons were tossed over the outer fencing for later retrieval.

In response to these actions, the Red River Exhibition has bolstered their perimeter security to ensure the safety of all attending guests.
