Winnipeg police respond to multiple stabbings over the weekend

Winnipeg police were busy over the weekend as they responded to several stabbings.

Around 1:00 am on Friday morning, May 28, 2021, police found a 13-year-old male suffering from stab wounds in the Sargent Park neighbourhood. The teen was taken to hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable.

Investigators say that the suspects were know to the victim and were placed under arrest a short time later. An 18-year-old female and a 17-year-old male are facing charges related to the assault.

Around 9:15 pm Friday night police responded to the area around Prichard Avenue and Aikins Street for a report that two people had been stabbed.

Police say that a group of people were gathered at a park near the intersection when a dispute occurred between two of the people in attendance. The situation escalated and a male stabbed a female. A second female stepped in to defend the first victim when she was also stabbed by the attacker.

Both females, aged 16 and 17, were taken to hospital in stable condition. Police say the second stabbing victim suffered life-altering injuries.

Investigators have arrested a 19-year-old male. He is facing assault and weapons charges for his alleged involvement.

He was released from custody on an Undertaking.

24 hours later another stabbing had police responding to the Forks.

Around 9:15 pm on Saturday, May 29, 2021, officers were called to the parkade at the Forks. Investigators say that a group of four or more people were in the parkade and confronted a male and a female. As an argument began the group started to kick and punch the victims.

A -29-year-old female who was driving in the parkade witnessed the altercation and attempted to intervene by placing her vehicle between the victim and assailants. the group then swarmed her vehicle and one of the assailants stabbed her. The suspects then fled on foot. The original two victims did not require medical attention but the female bystander was taken to hospital in unstable condition with what police describe as severe injuries. She was later upgraded to stable.

Police located two of the suspects nearby and took them into custody.

Two 17-year-old males are facing assault and weapons-related offences for their alleged involvement. Both were released on an Undertaking.

Police continue to investigate.
