In a series of unsettling events, the Winnipeg Police Service has been actively responding to incidents as part of their recent Violent Crime and Retail Theft Initiative (VCRT).
On June 10, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., officers were patrolling the Exchange District when they received a report of a male exposing himself in a back lane of King Street. Upon arrival, the police found the male still in the act and seemingly under the influence of methamphetamines.
The individual was promptly taken into custody and later released on an Appearance Notice. He is currently facing charges for committing an Indecent Act.
In a separate incident on June 16, at approximately 11:00 a.m., police were alerted to a sexual assault in the 100 block of Disraeli Freeway. An adult female reported that while she was disposing of trash at a public resource centre, a male approached her, touched her inappropriately, and held onto her shirt, preventing her from leaving. The woman managed to escape, retreated inside the centre, and contacted the police.
General Patrol officers located the male suspect still in the vicinity and placed him under arrest. The 33-year-old Winnipeg resident was charged with Sexual Assault and is currently detained in custody.
The accused cannot be named at this time, as he has not been formally charged in the first incident.
