Winnipeg Police Respond to Assaults at Fast-Food Restaurant

On December 8, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a fast-food restaurant in the 600 block of Portage Avenue following reports of two adult males being assaulted.

Central General Patrol officers arrived to find a 61-year-old male victim inside the restaurant, suffering from upper-body injuries inflicted by an adult male suspect who had fled the scene. The suspect was later apprehended in the 200 block of Sherbrook Street without incident. The victim was assessed by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members and medically cleared on site.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had initially entered the parked vehicle of a food delivery driver, demanding a ride from the 33-year-old male victim. Upon refusal, the suspect assaulted the driver both inside and outside the vehicle, stealing his personal property. The driver sustained minor upper-body injuries but did not require medical attention. The suspect then attempted to enter other parked vehicles in the surface lot before entering the restaurant, where he unprovokedly assaulted the second victim. Restaurant staff promptly called the police.

The suspect and victims were not previously acquainted.

Logan Stanley BAKER, 20, of Winnipeg, has been charged with Robbery and Assault Causing Bodily Harm. He remains in custody.
