On the evening of May 26, 2024, Winnipeg Police Service responded to an assault involving three females outside a business on the 800 block of Main Street. The incident was reported by a bystander around 6:00 p.m.
The victim, a woman in her 20s, suffered upper body injuries from being punched and kicked. Despite her injuries, she declined medical attention. She reported that her phone was stolen during the assault.
Police located the two female suspects in the vicinity and took them into custody. One of the suspects, a 16-year-old female, appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. She became combative and resisted arrest, assaulting two officers by kicking and headbutting them and refusing to enter the police cruiser. The officers did not require medical attention.
The 16-year-old now faces charges of Robbery, Assault Peace Officer x 2, and Resist Arrest. Once sober, she was released on an Undertaking into the care of an adult.
The second suspect, a 20-year-old female, is facing a charge of Robbery after the stolen phone was found in her possession. She was also released on an Undertaking, as mandated by the Criminal Code.
The police have determined that the parties involved in the incident were previously known to each other. The investigation is ongoing.
