Winnipeg Police Resolve Armed Barricade Situation on Alfred Avenue

On November 2, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., North District General Patrol officers responded to a report of a family trouble incident in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered an agitated adult male on the front porch armed with a large edged weapon. Several family members, including young children, were safely evacuated without injury. Shortly thereafter, the male barricaded himself within the residence.

Numerous police resources, including the Tactical Support Team (TST), the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Unit (Drone Unit), and General Patrol officers, remained on the scene for several hours. TST members attempted to de-escalate the situation without success and subsequently used less-lethal munitions (OC canisters) to temporarily incapacitate the male. Officers then utilized a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) to safely take him into custody.

A 30-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Warrant – Fail to Comply with Order or Obligation
  • Warrant – Fail to Comply with Probation Order – Public Interest

The male was detained in custody.
