In the story News4 told you about on Saturday a 30 year old man has been arrested and charged with second degree murder of missing 21 year old Christine Wood.
Wood went missing on August 19, 2016 after she went out for the evening. She was in Winnipeg for medical appointments and never returned to her hotel. An intense search and social media campaign was launched and continued for months following her disappearance.

In January the Missing Persons Unit and homicide investigators began to work together in hopes of solving the case.
On March 21, 2017 police executed a search warrant for a home in the 300 block of Burrows Avenue. Brett Ronald Overby was arrested and charged with an unrelated offence. While in the home police discovered forensic evidence that would lead to Overby’s arrest in the death of wood
In a media conference held at police headquarters Sgt. John O’Donovan from the Homicide Unit explained that the forensic evidence gathered over a six day period led to the charges ” We literally left no stone unturned in there. We checked that hose from top to bottom and we were able to provide evidence to the Crown’s office that Christine Wood was killed within that house.”
Overrby was charged with second degree murder for his alleged involvement in Wood’s death on April 7, 2017. Police have not recovered a body.
Investigators say that they do not believe Overby or Wood knew each other prior to her disappearance.
Police are continuing to investigate the case and are still attempting to find the remains.
