On the night of July 21, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service Traffic Division was actively conducting speed enforcement at various locations. At approximately 10:25 p.m., officers in the area of Wyper Road on the West Perimeter observed a Honda Civic traveling at an alarming speed.
The driver of the Honda Civic was engaged in a street race with another vehicle, reaching speeds of 179 km/h. Despite police attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply twice and dangerously ran a red light at McGillivray Boulevard and the Perimeter, accelerating to a staggering 202 km/h.
Police eventually tracked down the driver at his residence. The 19-year-old male was issued multiple Provincial Offence Notices, including:
- Drive Carelessly
- Speeding (179 km/h and 202 km/h)
- Failing to stop when requested by a Peace Officer (x2)
- Racing with another motor vehicle
In addition to these notices, the driver received a Serious Offence Notice and a Street Racing Administrative Suspension. He now faces $5,158 in fines and a license suspension.
