What can be better than a room full of puppies? – ahhhhh nothing!
On Friday Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) released pictures of seven new puppies born on September 1, 2020, as part of their in-house breeding program.
WPS began breeding police service dogs in 1999 and is one of the only breeding programs run by a municipal police service in Canada.
This litter is unique say officials as it is the first time that artificial insemination was used. The program was able combine highly sought-after traits of former Police Service Dog Judge with PSD Ellie to help ensure the highest quality K-9s are working beside officers.
Police say that nine years ago sperm samples were taken from Judge and frozen for future breeding due to the traits he displayed as a police dog.
Judge retired from the service in 2014 and passed away in 2015. This litter will continue his legacy with the police service.
