Winnipeg Police Investigate Vehicle Collision and Assault Incident

A dramatic scene unfolded on the streets of Winnipeg yesterday afternoon when a vehicle crashed into the CBC building on the Young Street side of the 500 block of Portage Avenue. The Winnipeg Police Service responded to the incident at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The initial investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle had left his wife and 18-year-old child in the parked car while he entered a nearby business. An unknown male then attempted to steal the vehicle, leading to the collision. Following the crash, the female passenger was assaulted on the ground by the suspect, who subsequently fled the scene.

Emergency services were promptly on the scene, and an ambulance was dispatched to provide medical assistance. Fortunately, the female passenger did not sustain serious injuries. The teenage passenger had exited the vehicle prior to the incident.

Officers on the scene gathered information from witnesses as part of their ongoing investigation. The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the case and is actively seeking additional information.

The Winnipeg Police Service is urging anyone with information related to this incident, including any video footage, to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219. Tips can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
