Officers responded to reports of a firearm being discharged at a residence on Manitoba Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered that two youth suspects, along with unidentified individuals, had approached the residence. One of the youth suspects fired a shot towards the home, prompting return fire from within.

At approximately 4:27 p.m., police located one of the youth suspects in the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable.

A second youth suspect, aged 14, was apprehended without incident near Flora Avenue and McKenzie Street. A firearm was recovered nearby. He faces charges including discharging a firearm in a reckless manner, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He remains in custody.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns and Gangs Unit subsequently launched an investigation into drug trafficking and gang activity in the William Whyte neighbourhood, focusing on the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue.
