Winnipeg Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing Incident

On May 17, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a distress call from an apartment complex in the 400 block of Sargent Avenue. The call was regarding an adult female who had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, Central District General Patrol officers found the female victim suffering from a serious stab wound. The officers provided emergency medical care to the victim before the arrival of an ambulance. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The officers arrested an adult male suspect inside the apartment without any incident. The Homicide Unit took over the investigation and has since identified the victim as 37-year-old Rachel MUSWAGON, a member of the Norway House Cree Nation who resided in Winnipeg. The family members of the victim have been notified.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Dustin Cody SWAMPY, has been charged with Second Degree Murder and is currently detained in custody. It has been revealed that the suspect and the victim were previously known to each other.
