Police arrest 14 suspects after 5 month drug investigation
Winnipeg Police are rightfully pleased with themselves after they arrested 14 individuals, seized a quantity of drugs and cash and took a least one weapon off the streets.
Operation “Project Central” was a joint investigation between the Community Support Unit and the Street Crimes Unit from Division 11. It was ignited because there was a fairly significant drug trade happening in the central part of the city.
Last September officers came together in an effort to identify people involved and locations associated with drug trafficking.
The 5 month investigation culminated with a raid at three homes on January 27, 2017. Officers from “Project Central” as well as officers from the Tactical Support Team executed warrants at homes located on Beacon Street, Pacific Avenue and Leila Avenue.
Police found drugs, cash and a weapon as a result of the warrants. They seized $8,500.00 cash, Cocaine with an estimated street value of $18,000.00, Crystal Methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $2,500.00, Marihuana with an estimated street value of $360.00, 1.1 kg of a white (unknown) powder (lab tests pending), Loaded sawed-off rifle, Several thousand dollars’ worth of clothing and jewellery.
Officers also arrested 14 people related to the investigation and they have been charged with a number of drug and weapon related offences.
