Winnipeg Police Crack Down on Truckers, Issue $32,000 in Fines

In a targeted enforcement operation aimed at enhancing road safety, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) Traffic Division, in collaboration with Manitoba Motor Carrier Enforcement, conducted a blitz on commercial transport vehicles on March 5, 2025. The operation focused on enforcing hours of service regulations, which are crucial for preventing driver fatigue and ensuring safe roadways.

The enforcement initiative revealed significant non-compliance within the commercial trucking industry. Authorities placed four commercial drivers on a mandatory 72-hour regulatory shutdown, effectively pulling them off the road due to severe violations of hours of service regulations.

Furthermore, officers issued a total of 17 Provincial Offence Act tickets. These infractions included five tickets under the Highway Traffic Act, one under a Manitoba Regulation, and eleven under the Federal Commercial Vehicle Driver’s Hours of Service Regulation. The combined fines levied against the offending drivers amounted to approximately $32,000.
