On January 31, 2025, the Child Abuse Unit of the Winnipeg Police Service initiated an investigation following a report involving two school-age children who were approached by an unknown male in the J.B. Mitchell neighborhood of River Heights the day before.
Police Investigating Attempted Abduction in River Heights
The Child Abuse Unit, worked to identify and locate the individual in question. Following extensive investigative efforts and gathering additional details, it has been determined that while the behaviour of the male was concerning, it does not appear to be an attempted child abduction. Consequently, no charges have been laid against the individual.
The Winnipeg Police Service extends its gratitude to the public for their vigilance, concern, and the valuable information provided during the investigation. Caregivers are reminded to continue educating their children about safety strategies and to report any suspicious circumstances to a trusted adult.
