A months-long investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns and Gangs Unit has resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of illicit drugs, firearms, and cash, and the arrest of three individuals.
The investigation, which began in January 2025 focusing on drug trafficking in the Elmwood neighbourhood, culminated in a series of arrests and search warrants, revealing a large-scale operation.
On March 6, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop at Watt Street and Chalmers Avenue, arresting a 38-year-old Winnipeg man. He faces a multitude of charges, including multiple counts of possession of scheduled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, firearm-related offences, and possession of body armour without a permit.
Following this arrest, the Guns and Gangs Unit, with assistance from the Tactical Support Team and district community support units, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Tweed Avenue. There, they seized approximately 2.8 kilograms of methamphetamine, 4.6 kilograms of cocaine, various prescription and counterfeit pills, fentanyl, psilocybin, a sawed-off shotgun, a Glock pistol, tasers, a bulletproof vest, brass knuckles, a switchblade, over $10,000 in cash, stolen property, and drug trafficking paraphernalia. A 40-year-old Winnipeg woman was arrested at the scene and faces similar charges to the male arrested during the traffic stop.
A second search warrant was executed at a residence in the 500 block of Roberta Avenue, resulting in the arrest of a 54-year-old Winnipeg man. While no drugs were found, he was charged with possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.
A third search warrant was executed on a storage locker at a commercial business on Gordon Avenue, yielding a Kriss Vector .45 calibre semi-auto rifle, two pellet guns, and a large quantity of ammunition.
In total, the seized drugs are estimated to have a street value of approximately $179,000. Over $10,000 in Canadian currency was also seized.
All three individuals were released on an Undertaking, as mandated by the Criminal Code. The investigation is ongoing.
