Winnipeg Police Arrest Youths in BB Gun Shooting Incident

On October 28, 2024, at approximately midnight, General Patrol officers from the Central District, with assistance from the Tactical Support Team, responded to a report of a male shot in the area of Hargrave and Portage. The victim, a male in his 70s, sustained a gunshot wound to his head and was transported to the hospital in unstable condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition. The firearm was determined to be a BB gun.

The victim reported that he was leaving a restaurant and walking along Hargrave Street when he was suddenly shot. Three youths fled the area. Witnesses provided a description to the police, leading to the eventual arrest of two males, ages 12 and 14, and a 13-year-old female. They are facing assault and firearm-related charges and remain in police custody.

The investigation has been turned over to the Major Crimes Unit, which believes the suspects were randomly shooting the firearm. Investigators suspect there may be additional victims who have not yet been identified.

Anyone with information about this incident, or if you are a victim, is urged to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
