Winnipeg Police Arrest Two Suspects in Fatal Stabbing Incident

On May 12, 2024, at approximately 2:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a distress call at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Arlington Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered an injured male on the ground. Immediate emergency medical care was administered, including the application of a chest seal and compressions. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Jack Jacques Kabluitok, 46, originally from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, and currently residing in Winnipeg.

The Homicide Unit took over the investigation, which revealed that Kabluitok had been confronted by two suspects who robbed him of his property. The situation escalated, resulting in Kabluitok being fatally stabbed.

On August 20, 2024, police arrested two suspects in the 200 block of Young Street. Derrick James Grey, 32, has been charged with manslaughter and robbery, while Roberta Jonah Sumner, 21, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. Both suspects remain in custody.
