Winnipeg Police have apprehended a 27-year-old man believed to be responsible for a series of thefts and related crimes spanning over five months, primarily targeting the city’s south end. Travis Freddie Ducharme was arrested on February 12th after a search warrant was executed at his residence.
The investigation, conducted by the Winnipeg Police Service’s Property Crime Unit, revealed a pattern of brazen thefts, including stolen vehicles, purses, wallets, and electronics. The incidents began on August 28, 2024, when Ducharme allegedly stole a 2009 Sierra 1500 from a gas station on Pembina Highway.
Over the following months, the suspect’s alleged crimes escalated, encompassing:
- Vehicle thefts: Including a 2023 Honda Civic Sport, a 2023 Nissan Rogue, a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, a 2012 Kia Optima, a 2015 Honda Civic EX, and a 2011 Toyota Corolla.
- Property thefts: Including laptops, electronics, a Fender electric guitar, and numerous wallets and purses from locations such as restaurants, salons, hospitals, and churches.
- Break-ins: Including commercial spaces and vehicles, often accompanied by property damage.
- Fraudulent transactions: Using stolen credit and debit cards at various businesses.
- Threats: Including a threat to kill a victim who confronted him about vehicle damage.
One particularly concerning incident involved a confrontation on Border Street, where Ducharme allegedly threatened to kill a victim after breaking the window of his vehicle. Another incident involved the theft of a cell phone from a vehicle containing an adult female and an infant.
Ducharme faces a total of 68 charges for his alleged involvement, including:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Theft Under $5,000
- Break Enter & Theft – Place
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Under $5,000
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited
- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order
- Fraud Under $5,000
- Use of Credit Card
Ducharme has been detained in custody.
