On the night of January 31, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers from the Winnipeg Police Service’s West District General Patrol responded to a distress call reporting a robbery involving a machete. The incident occurred on the 200 block of Roseberry Street.
The 28-year-old male victim recounted that he was walking along the street when an unknown male, armed with a machete, approached him and demanded his belongings. In a desperate attempt to escape, the victim began running, with the suspect in pursuit, swinging the machete. The suspect managed to slash at the victim’s back, but the victim’s backpack fortunately absorbed the blow.
The victim successfully reached safety and contacted the police while the suspect continued to flee. Officers in the vicinity quickly received a description of the suspect and located him nearby, with the machete concealed on his person.
A 16-year-old male from Winnipeg was taken into custody and has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with a condition of a release order. He remains detained in custody as the investigation continues.
