A 14-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing multiple charges after a dramatic chase and arrest early Saturday morning, July 20, 2024.
Officers with the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a break-in at a mall on Sterling Lyon Parkway shortly after midnight. Police say the suspect smashed the glass door to enter the mall, then broke into two stores before fleeing with stolen merchandise.
Officers located the suspect walking near Corydon Avenue and Carpathia Road around 1:50 am and arrested him without incident. While investigating the mall break-in, detectives with the Major Crimes Unit linked the suspect to a string of recent robberies and another break-in.
Violent Crime Spree:
- June 4: The suspect allegedly stole a liquor bottle from a restaurant on Corydon Avenue, then bear-sprayed a 65-year-old man who tried to stop him.
- July 12: The suspect is accused of robbing two separate men at gunpoint – a 67-year-old on Balmoral Street and a 20-year-old at the intersection of Ellice and Hargrave. Both victims were shot with airsoft guns, with the 67-year-old requiring medical attention.
- July 19: The suspect is believed to have broken into a religious establishment on Wilkes Avenue, causing significant damage.
The total value of the stolen merchandise is estimated at $3,500, with over $22,000 in damages caused during the robberies and break-ins. Police have recovered some of the stolen goods.

- Break & Enter with Intent – Place x 4
- Fail to Comply with Sentence x 9
The 14-year-old is in custody. The investigation is ongoing, and police anticipate further arrests.
