Winnipeg Police Arrest Suspect in Sexual Exploitation Case

In September 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Counter Exploitation Unit launched an investigation into a report of sexual exploitation involving an adult male and a youth female. The investigation revealed that the female survivor had met the male suspect over social media in December 2023. Over the following months, the survivor continued to communicate and meet with the suspect, during which she was sexually assaulted multiple times.

On December 22, the Counter Exploitation Unit arrested the suspect, Michele Buttari, 49, of Winnipeg, after he turned himself in at Winnipeg Police Headquarters. Buttari has been charged with Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Obtaining Sexual Services from a Person Under 18 years of age, and Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by Means of Telecommunication. He remains in custody.
