The Winnipeg Police Service has made an arrest in connection with an assault that occurred on September 24, 2024, at the intersection of Sutherland and Maple. The incident, which involved a 50-year-old male victim, has been under investigation by the Major Crimes Unit.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the victim with serious upper body injuries. He was being attended to by members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and was subsequently transported to the hospital in unstable condition. His condition was later upgraded to stable.
The initial investigation revealed that a group of males were walking together when an argument broke out. The argument escalated, leading to two suspects chasing and assaulting the victim multiple times in the upper body before fleeing the scene.
After continued investigation, the Major Crimes Unit identified a lone male suspect. On January 30, 2025, the suspect, Brandon Shawn Kelly Murdock, 19, of Winnipeg, was arrested at a residence in the 500 block of Matheson Avenue. The victim and the suspect were not previously known to each other.
Murdock has been charged with Aggravated Assault and remains in custody.
