On the evening of July 19, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service swiftly responded to a residential break-in on the 300 block of Larsen Avenue. Upon arrival, East District General Patrol officers observed an adult male suspect fleeing the scene. A brief foot pursuit ensued, with the assistance of the Canine Unit, leading to the suspect’s arrest in a yard on the 300 block of Bowman Avenue.
The suspect, identified as Ricky Clarence Arthur Brightnose, 35, of York Factory First Nation, was found in possession of a canister of bear spray repellant and a stolen cellular phone. Thankfully, the residents—a 34-year-old female, a 26-year-old male, and a 16-year-old male—were unharmed during the incident.
While in police custody, Brightnose feigned a medical emergency and subsequently assaulted an officer. The officer was uninjured. Further investigation revealed that Brightnose was carrying an identification document belonging to another individual and had falsely identified himself.
Brightnose faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement including Break, Enter & Commit – Dwelling House, Assault Peace Officer, Possession of a Weapon, Identity Fraud – Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice, and two warrants of arrest. He remains in police custody.
The Winnipeg Police Service continues to investigate the incident.
