On May 18, 2024, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a commercial robbery at a jewellery store located in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue. The suspect, a male, had fled the scene in a vehicle before the arrival of the West District General Patrol officers.
The initial investigation revealed that the suspect, who had concealed his identity, entered the store and confronted the staff. He acknowledged being armed and proceeded to grab a large quantity of merchandise before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation. On May 20, 2024, at approximately 8:35 a.m., the suspect was observed operating the vehicle on Notre Dame Avenue. The vehicle was stopped, and the suspect was arrested.
The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Marc Maurice Hebert, has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, and taking a motor vehicle without consent, also known as joyriding. Hebert was detained in custody following his arrest.
The stolen merchandise has not yet been recovered, and the investigation into the robbery continues. The Winnipeg Police Service is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
