Winnipeg Police Arrest Suspect in 2022 Homicide Case

On November 12, 2022, at approximately 5:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a distress call from the 400 block of William Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a 23-year-old female, later identified as Delany Nora Desmarais of Winnipeg, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Despite the immediate emergency medical care provided by the officers and subsequent hospital treatment, Desmarais succumbed to her injuries. The Homicide Unit took over the investigation following the tragic incident.

In March 2024, a Warrant of Arrest for Manslaughter was issued for 49-year-old Clinton Desmond Bignell, who was identified as the suspect in the case.

On May 1, 2024, officers spotted Bignell in the area of Furby Street and Cumberland Avenue. He was promptly arrested on the strength of the warrant. Bignell has been charged with Manslaughter, Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Pointing a Firearm. He is currently detained in custody.
