On July 26, 2024, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Keenleyside Street involving a black SUV. The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and identified the vehicle as a black, 2019 Dodge Ram.
On July 29, 2024, at around 1:35 p.m., the Dodge Ram was spotted in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway. Officers from the West District General Patrol, along with members of the Guns and Gangs Unit and the Tactical Support Team, conducted a high-risk vehicle stop. One occupant fled on foot but was quickly apprehended after a short pursuit. Three other occupants were taken into custody. A pump-action shotgun and four shotgun shells were found in the vehicle.
Tyson Stewart McPherson, 29, of Peguis First Nation, faces multiple charges, including:
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
McPherson was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Philippe Rex Dubuc, 32, of Winnipeg, is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Drive Suspended/Disqualified
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking
Both McPherson and Dubuc were detained in custody. An adult male and an adult female were released without charges.
