The Places to Go – Public Restroom Strategy was launched today in downtown to provide places for those experiencing homelessness.
“Winnipeg has transformed since the last public washroom closed, and I’m happy to see this strategy moving forward to ensure there will be more places to go Downtown,” said Mayor Brian Bowman.
The city will be spending $50,000 on the temporary washrooms with an additional $620,000 to build permanent facilities in the downtown area in 2021.
The facilities that opened today are located at 473 Selkirk Avenue, 26 Osborne Street and 345 Portage Avenue. Four more temporary washrooms are expected to open in the coming days at 75 Martha (three washrooms) and 222 Furby Street.
