RCMP are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that happened on Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2022.
According to investigators, six motorcycles were travelling westbound on Provincial Road 311 about five kilometres northeast of Steinbach when they drove into mud debris deposited on the highway. The lead driver lost control and was thrown from his bike into the eastbound lane and was then hit by a pickup truck. 45-year-old Denis L’Heureux was identified as the victim. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Family friends tell News 4 that L’Heureux was celebrating his birthday that day and participating in a fundraising ride for a local animal shelter.
The other motorcyclists also lost control on the mud however they were able to put down their bikes and avoid injury. L’Heureux’s wife and children were among those also on the ride at the time of the incident. At the time of the collision, L’Heureux’s 12-year-old daughter was riding on his bike but did not suffer any physical injuries.
