A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a series of fires in North Winnipeg late on January 29, 2025. Patrol officers from the North District noticed a working fire around 11:15 p.m. in the 800 block of Leila Avenue, prompting them to contact the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS), who quickly responded to extinguish the flames.
While investigating the incident, officers identified a male suspect who matched the description provided by witnesses. He was located in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street and taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers discovered approximately 9 grams of methamphetamine, valued at an estimated $450, along with a blue lighter.

This fire caused approximately $10,000 in damages, although it was promptly contained by the WFPS.
In addition to the first fire, the suspect was linked to another incident on Leila Avenue, where he allegedly set a garbage bin on fire near a commercial property. This fire resulted in an estimated $5,000 in damages. No injuries were reported from either incident.
Ronald Marmito Amigo now faces several charges for his alleged involvement, including: – Arson Causing Damage to Property (x2) – Possession of Incendiary Material – Possession of a Scheduled Substance (Methamphetamine) – Warrant for Failing to Comply with a Probation Order.
