Winnipeg man dies in head-on collision

RCMP are investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a 70-year-old man from Winnipeg on Friday morning, July 16, 2021.

According to investigators a vehicle was reported travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway about eight kilometres east of Deacon’s Corner around 5:25 am.

Seven minutes later responding officers learned that the vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with westbound car. The 70-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The 30-year-old driver of the westbound car from La Broquerie, Manitoba was seriously injured and taken to a Winnipeg hospital.

RCPM closed the westbound lanes of the highway for several hours as investigators gathered information at the scene.
