A 41-year-old Winnipeg man is facing Impaired Driving Causing Death and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle charges according to RCMP.

On August 26, 2023, RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Lakeview Road on Matheson Island.

When officers arrived on the scene they found a pickup truck that had been involved in a rollover and collision with a fence. The male driver was able to exit the vehicle and was then helped by witnesses until police arrived. The 50-year-old female passenger from Thompson was pronounced dead inside the vehicle.

Police arrested the male at the scene for impaired driving. The accused provided breath samples to officers. The man was detained overnight and released the following day. He is scheduled to appear in an Arborg court on November 6, 2023.
