In January 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a large-scale theft involving Apple electronic products at an international parcel delivery company warehouse. The suspect, a 30-year-old male employee, was identified and arrested on January 22, 2024.
Orville Beltrano was charged with multiple theft-related and possession of property-related charges. A search warrant executed on Beltrano’s residence and personal vehicle led to the seizure of a stolen laptop, a cellular phone, and Canadian funds believed to be obtained from the sale of stolen property. Beltrano was initially released via an undertaking as the investigation continued.
Investigators found that between September 2023 and mid-January 2024, Beltrano had allegedly stolen in-transit Apple electronics valued at approximately $1.4 million U.S. He then allegedly sold the stolen goods using online classified advertisements.
In March 2024, it was revealed that Beltrano had deposited over $900,000 in Canadian funds from the sale of stolen property into personal accounts. Some of the proceeds were used to purchase a residence valued at over $600,000.
On April 17, 2024, Beltrano was arrested without incident at his residence by the Property Crime Unit investigators. He has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Theft Over $5,000
- Laundering Proceeds of Crime
