A Winnipeg man is in custody facing multiple charges after a violent incident unfolded on Tuesday evening, leaving two people injured and a taxi driver shaken.
On February 11, 2025, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service officers responded to a call in the first 100 block of Keewatin Avenue regarding a serious assault with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a verbal dispute between a 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man had escalated, resulting in the woman being assaulted in the upper body with a knife. A 37-year-old man, also present during the altercation, suffered similar injuries. Officers provided immediate medical attention to both victims before paramedics arrived. Both victims were transported to a local hospital in unstable condition but have since been upgraded to stable condition. Police confirmed that the victims and the suspect were known to each other.
The suspect fled the scene on foot before entering a taxi. He then travelled to the 800 block of Main Street. Before exiting the taxi, the suspect allegedly produced a knife and robbed the 26-year-old male taxi driver. The driver was not physically injured.
At approximately 7:25 p.m., police located the suspect in the 800 block of Main Street and apprehended him without incident. A knife was seized at the time of the arrest.
Aditvanand Katwaroo, 33, of Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, robbery, and assault with a weapon. He remains in custody.
