The Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) has arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with child sexual abuse imagery charges. The arrest follows a notification from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regarding an intercepted international package destined for a Winnipeg address. The package contained a sex doll designed to resemble a pre-pubescent child.
With the assistance of the Counter Exploitation Unit, investigators launched an investigation, leading to the execution of a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the Silver Heights area on August 21, 2024. Numerous items, including various electronic devices, were seized, and a forensic analysis by the Technological Crimes Section is pending.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had imported similar items and children’s clothing between December 2022 and August 2024. The man has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of Child Pornography
- Imports, Distributes, Sells or Possesses for the Purpose of Distribution
- Makes, Prints, Publishes or Possesses for the Purpose of Publication any Child Pornography
The suspect remains in custody as the ICE Unit continues its investigation. Anyone with information or wishing to speak to investigators is encouraged to call 204-986-6172.
