Winnipeg Man Arrested in Connection with Multiple Break-Ins and Thefts

33-year-old Nickolas Walter Combot has been arrested and charged with nine offences, including two counts of break, enter and theft, following a series of incidents that began early Wednesday morning on July 17, 2024.

At approximately 6:00 a.m., officers from the East District responded to a report of a commercial break-in at a cannabis shop located in the 1000 block of Henderson Highway. Upon arrival, police observed a pick-up truck with an Ontario license plate fleeing the scene. The vehicle was driven erratically, at excessive speeds, and weaving in and out of morning traffic. For public safety, officers did not pursue the vehicle.

The fleeing truck was later confirmed to have been reported stolen from the 300 block of Ottawa Avenue on July 15. The Ontario license plate on the truck had also been reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Barber Street on the same day.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., a General Patrol Unit spotted the stolen truck parked in the 200 block of Bowman Avenue. As they waited for a tow truck, officers observed a male suspect, later identified as Combot, walking nearby and promptly took him into custody.

Combot was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit, who continued the investigation. A search warrant was subsequently granted and executed at a residence in the 200 block of Jamison Avenue. Combot was also linked to a break-in at a pizzeria in the 600 block of Henderson Highway earlier that morning.

The investigation resulted in the seizure of another stolen vehicle, reported stolen on July 12 from a residence in the 600 block of Castle Avenue, stolen cannabis products from the break-in on Henderson Highway, and $40 worth of fentanyl.

Combot has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of break, enter and theft, flight while pursued by a peace officer, dangerous operation of a conveyance, operation of a conveyance while prohibited pursuant to a federal or provincial act, possession of a scheduled substance (fentanyl), and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000. He has been detained in custody.
