Winnipeg Man Arrested in Connection with April Homicide

A 50-year-old Winnipeg man, Adam Joseph Morrissette, has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Bill Brian Duck, a 28-year-old member of God’s Lake Narrows First Nation.

On April 26, 2024, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of Flora Avenue. Duck was found at a nearby residence with a serious gunshot wound. Despite receiving emergency medical care and being rushed to the hospital, Duck later died from his injuries.

On the night of May 6, 2024, Winnipeg Police Service officers were patrolling near McGregor Street and Magnus Avenue when they noticed a pick-up truck making an evasive turn. The officers followed the vehicle to Burrows and Parr, where a man exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was quickly apprehended and identified as Morrissette, a suspect in Duck’s murder.

Morrissette was arrested on the strength of a warrant for Second Degree Murder. He was found to be in possession of a small amount of drugs and the vehicle he was driving was determined to be stolen. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, and two counts of Possession of a Scheduled Substance.

The investigation revealed that Morrissette and Duck were not known to each other.
